Analysis of the reasons why wind-solar complementary solar
By calculating the Kendall rank correlation coefficient between wind and solar energy in China, the study mapped the spatial distribution of wind-solar energy complementarity.
Han et al. have proposed a complementarity evaluation method for wind, solar, and hydropower by examining independent and combined power generation fluctuation. Hydropower is the primary source, while wind and solar participation are changed in each scenario to improve power system operation.
Numerous researchers have focused on optimizing the installed capacities of wind and solar energy in integrated energy systems . Adjusting the wind and solar ratios can significantly reduce the required storage capacity of the system, thereby ensuring a more stable power supply .
For hybrid wind–solar power plants, the ATSU is particularly relevant due to the intermittent nature of these renewable sources. Accurately determining and managing the ATSU is essential for optimizing the plant's design, and maximizing the economic viability of these renewable energy projects.
The HX and WM bases demonstrated optimal complementarity between wind and solar energy from the hourly perspective of the complementary effects (Fig. 5c and d). Approximately eight daylight hours (9 a.m.-5 PM) exhibited a WSS index reaching 100 %, WSB index surpassing 50 %, and a nighttime WCS index ranging from 45 % to 50 %.
