Meralco unit to build 49 MW battery storage system in Cebu
Meralco PowerGen Corporation''s (MGEN) subsidiary, Toledo Energy Development Corp., has contracted with CATL and SUMEC to construct a 49-megawatt
This ownership tree is part of the Global Energy Ownership Tracker, a project of Global Energy Monitor. The 246 MW Cebu Energy power station consists of 3 x 82MW coal-fired generators. Units 1 & 2 began operating in 2010, and Unit 3 began operating in 2011. The station is operated by Cebu Energy Development Corporation.
The plant, which will be the first battery-based energy storage facility in the Philippines, will be located next to the Masinloc power plant in Zambales. The energy storage array will enhance grid reliability by providing fast response ancillary services like frequency regulation.
