Valenciaport announces 5G network to boost port
Valenciaport in Spain has announced the development of its own 5G network to connect more than 25,000 devices and establish itself
The telco said that its 5G FWA deployment will continue to be progressively expanded to another 65 cities in the future. Vodafone also noted that its 5G network will be available in 1,000 municipalities across Spain by the end of the year, reaching 46% of the population.
Valenciaport's 5G network will use n40 frequencies, frequencies regulated by the public administration, thus ensuring the privacy of the network in the port area and allowing for customised security, controlling the devices that are connected.
Furthermore, ultrafast broadband covers 87% of the country, compared to 60% in Europe. The 2019 DESI report (Digital Economy and Society Index) ranks Spain eighth among countries best prepared for 5G technology deployment, having auctioned 30% of its frequency spectrum compared to an average 14% in the EU.
Spanish operators have been accelerating 5G deployments during 2021 and all carriers already offer 5G in the country's main urban areas as well as in medium-sized cities.
